The former England footballer was ‘bricking’ it before he entered the jungle

Former England footballer Wayne Bridge is determined to make his children proud during his stint in the jungle.

The dad-of-three, who is married to The Saturdays’ star Frankie, will also miss his son Jaydon’s 10th birthday while he’s Down Under.

“This is the longest I have been away from my kids,” says Wayne, who admits he could get emotional during the show.

“And since I have stopped playing football, I have been doing daddy day care – especially if Frankie is busy,” he added.

“It’s going to be difficult being away from them but I will try and make them proud.”

But aside from being a devoted family man, what else do we know about the 36-year-old I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! contestant?

Footballer Wayne is is now retired but played for Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester City and Fulham during his career.

As a former England player he made 36 appearances for the national team between 2002 and 2009.

He admits he is best known for refusing to shake former England captain John Terry’s hand after learning that Terry had an affair with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel, the the mother of Wayne’s then three-year-old son.

But Wayne says he hopes his stint in the jungle will help people learn more about him.

He said: “This whole thing is so different for me. I have never really put myself out there publicly before.

“People either say ‘I am famous for playing football’ or some might say ‘I am famous for not shaking someone’s hand’ but I would like people to get to know me for who I am.

“I want it to happen tomorrow now. All I can think about is the Jungle. Everything is going on around my head and… I can’t stop thinking about it.”

Wayne hopes people will see his lighter side and he plans to encourage his fellow celebrities to embrace fun, games and exercises to quell the boredom levels.

But despite his excitement about going into the jungle, Wayne said he is scared about what camp life will involve and the infamous Bushtucker Trials the show is known for.

“I am bricking myself,” he said. “I am so nervous and scared of everything.”

Wayne’s biggest phobias include rats, spiders, cockroaches, snakes and claustrophobia.

He also revealed the things he’ll miss most, aside from his wife and children, will be the comfort of his bed and pillow, alongside his phone and getting used to a sugar free diet.

I would be devastated if I shouted ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’,” he said.

“Of course my friends will take the mickey and I will be getting ripped if I scream. But I want to give the Trials a go.

“I’ve seen previous celebrities jump out of a plane and whilst I will be scared to actually do it, I think I will get a buzz from it too.

“It’s such a test and challenge for me. I love the show, my son loves the show and so do my family and friends.”
