Bournemouth eye Ake swoop

Bournemouth are considering a dramatic late bid to buy Nathan Ake as well as Asmir Begovic from Chelsea before tonight’s deadline.

The south coast side are understood to be willing to dig deep to land the pair after Ake impressed on loan during the first half of the season.

Ake is very highly rated at Chelsea. He has was brought back to the club this month by Antonio Conte who intends to integrate him into his first-team squad.

Conte has spoken in glowing terms about the 21-year-old’s potential and versatility. But Ake is not yet an automatic starter while he would go straight into the Bournemouth team.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe remains a huge fan following Ake’s solid, consistent displays on the south coast. Although replacements have been sought there is a feeling that the club would be better served re-investing in a player they know and admire.

Bournemouth are already poised to land 29-year-old keeper Begovic who fears he is “wasted” on the bench at Stamford Bridge. Both deals are dependent on Chelsea bringing in replacements.

Chelsea are in ongoing negotiations with Celtic for their keeper Craig Gordon. The Premier League leaders are understood to have had two bids rejected but Gordon is keen on the move. Bournemouth’s determination to bring back Ake is believed to be the reason behind Chelsea’s late bid to sign Schalke left-back Sead Kolisinac.

The German 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is thought to represent good value as Ake’s replacement.

Palace join Saints in Sakho race

Crystal Palace have joined Southampton in the chase for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.

Sakho has been shut out of first team action by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with the Reds aiming to get him off the books before 11am on Tuesday.

The £16million defender was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of America and had previously infuriated club officials by taking a fat-burner which subsequently saw him miss the end of last season.
