Prince William has stepped into the Meghan Markle privacy fray, backing little brother Harry in his support of his girlfriend.

Following Prince Harry’s unprecedented step of issuing a formal statement via social media earlier this month, the Duke of Cambridge has now offered his thoughts on the matter.

A Palace spokesman told Mirror Celeb: “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him”.

However, opposing reports in The Daily Mail over the weekend claimed that Prince William was reportedly ‘deeply unhappy’ with his brother.

A source told the newspaper: “He thinks Harry made a mistake in confirming the relationship and releasing such an emotional statement so soon.

“William knows that his brother can be hot-headed and understands that it is something he felt very strongly about.

Privately, he shares a lot of the sentiments he and Meghan expressed as, make no mistake, she was very involved in the statement too.”

Prince Harry felt compelled to express his concern over girlfriend Meghan Markle’s safety which he said “has seen a line crossed” in a statement posted on Facebook and Twitter on November 8.

The statement read: “His girlfriend, Meghan Markle , has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public, the smear on the front page of a national news, paper, the racial undertones of comment pieces, and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.

There has been much speculation over 34-year-old Prince Harry’s love life
Prince Harry is worried about Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.

“He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game… it is her life and his.”

Harry was introduced to divorcee Meghan, 35, by mutual friend Markus Anderson at London’s Soho House in June and things are already pretty serious between them.
