Hoping to inspire young ladies from across the nation, First Lady Michelle Obama attended the I’m Every Woman: The History of Women in Soul workshop at the White House on Thursday (March 6).

The proud hostess wore a long-sleeved multicolored dress as she told the audience that soul is “the kind of music that makes you move, no matter who you are or where you come from.”

Entertainers for the event included Janelle Monae, Patti LaBelle, and Melissa Etheridge who got the young ladies up on their feet.

For her performance, Ms. Monae belted out “Victory,” a song she wrote that she imagined being sung in church.
