lucie-jones1Lucie Jones, the singer who sparked an outcry when she was voted off The X Factor in favour of Jedward, is making a bid for the charts.

She will join Kym Marsh, Caroline Quentin, former T’Pau singer Carol Decker, GMTV presenter Penny Smith and the Cheeky Girls to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The celebrities are re-recording Cyndi Lauper’s classic track Girls Just Wanna Have Fun to mark the start of women-only fundraising event Race For Life.

Glamour models Nicola T and Danielle Lloyd, Liz McClarnon, Lucy Benjamin and former Mis-Teeq star Su-Elise Nash are also putting their vocals to the track.

DJ and singer Sonique is fronting the single, returning to the microphone for the first time since her breast cancer diagnosis last June.

The single also features a number of women who have been affected by cancer and will be released on April 26.

Teenager Lucie hit the headlines last year when she was up against Irish twins John and Edward Grimes and Simon Cowell had the deciding vote of the X Factor judges.

He opted for Jedward, despite previously calling them “vile creatures”.

His decision, which meant the judges were deadlocked and the twins were saved in a public vote, led to more than 3,000 complaints.
