As if a remake of the invasion action classic “Red Dawn” wasn’t enough to get male fans excited, today came another reason for guys to mark the film’s September, 2010 release date on their calenders: Isabel Lucas.

Announced today by THR, the 24 year-old “Transformers 2” co-star has been cast as cheerleader Erica Mason, the female lead played in the 1984 original by Lea Thompson. In the remake, which has been rumored to stay loyal to the source material (with the addition of Chinese soldiers joining the invading Russian troops) Lucas will play both love-interest and “Wolverine” freedom fighter; a mix that will require Lucas to participate in weeks worth of military training.

The Australian actress recently completed work on the romantic drama “The Waiting City” with Radha Mitchell, and can next be seen in the upcoming vampire thriller “Daybreakers,” alongside Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe.

“Red Dawn” begins shooting next month in Detroit.
