The BBC professional dancer was attacked in the seaside town just hours after the live show was aired from Blackpool

Strictly Come Dancing professional star Gorka Marquez was badly beaten by a gang of yobs just hours after he wowed the nation in Saturday night’s live show.

The 26-year-old Spanish dancer had two of his teeth bashed out of his mouth as a group of youths attacked him in the street.

Gorka, who was partnered with Tameka Empson is now scheduled to have emergency dental surgery to try and minimise the damage and give him back his million dollar smile.

According to reports Gorka was targeted by the gang who planned the attack and ambushed him as he made his way to a nightclub in Blackpool along with some of his BBC colleagues Aljaz Skorjanec and Neil Jones.

The vicious and unprovoked attack took place just hours after he’d danced with Janette Manrara in a routine to a Rick Astley song.

The dance had been filmed in advance on Saturday night for the BBC results show that airs on Sunday evening.

It is reported that Gorka was attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning as he walked to a popular night haunt in Blackpool called the Flamingo nightclub.

A friend told The Sun: “Gorka and a few of the other dancers were heading to a nightclub to let their hair down after another brilliant show.

“All of a sudden this group of local louts came out of nowhere. One of them punched Gorka in the face and broke two of his teeth.

Gorka’s friend added that neither Gorka nor Aljaz and Neil had met the gang before they attacked him.

They said: “Gorka was sober, he doesn’t drink. This was an entirely random and shocking attack on a group of friends simply trying to enjoy a night out.

They went straight back to the hotel to see if he needed urgent medical care before going back to London for dental surgery.”

Although Gorka was eliminated from the show in week three, he remained part of the ensemble and continued to show his fancy footwork in the group routines.

This is the first series the Spaniard has taken part in and he has been described as a “warm and friendly” person.

A show spokesman said: “Gorka was sadly the victim of an unprovoked incident in Blackpool on Saturday night but he will be back in training this week and is looking forward to the group routine next weekend.”
