christina-aguilera0051A new American singing contest sees contestants picked on their voice alone.

Judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton must keep their backs turned as they each choose a team of eight artists to train into potential superstars.

As each contestant auditions, the ‘blind’ panelists hit their buzzers if they want them on their team.

Only after they have hit the buzzer will their chair swing round to reveal what the wannabe pop star looks like.

On The Voice, which premieres in the United States on Tuesday, Aguilera, Green, Levine and Shelton will battle it out to pick the strongest teams.

If more than one judge wants the same contestant, it is up to the artist to choose who they want as their coach.

If the whole quartet keep their backs turned, the contestant is eliminated.

Once the coaches have selected their eight-man teams they will train their artists and help them improve their performances.

During a battle round, each coach will then be forced to slash their group in half – from eight to four contestants.

During the final live performance rounds, the viewers will decide the eventual winner in a public vote.

The prize is a lucrative recording contract with Universal Republic.
