Getting back to her roots,  Carrie Underwood was spotted presenting her alma mater Checotah High School with a massive donation to their music program today (August 28).

The “Jesus Take the Wheel” songstress surprised students with over $117,000 worth of new musical instruments, a joint gift from her C.A.T.S. Foundation and ACM Lifting Lives organization.

Joining music teacher Kathy Cooper on stage in the school’s auditorium, Carrie proclaimed, “Mrs. Cooper gave me my first chance to perform on stage.  The music program is so important. … My career has given me this opportunity to give back.”

Principle Brian Terry told press, “Carrie told me backstage that she’s never been so nervous.  She said that she can perform in front of thousands of people, but this program is very important to her. Our band program is both very good and very competitive. This gift has been in the works for months.”
