Lady GaGa has been added to the growing list of people slated to appear at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. And you know what that means…this year’s VMA fashion choices just got a whole lot weirder.

Along with Lady GaGa, Jay-Z was also recently added to the show’s list of performers. Lady GaGa and Jay-Z join Green Day, Muse, Pink and Taylor Swift in the list of confirmed performers. This year’s VMAs will go down on September 13th at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Also locked down are Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry and Ne-Yo, who are all set to present at the show. And of course, like last year, Russell Brand will act as the show’s master of ceremonies. In other words, hide the Jonas Brothers, it’s about to get raunchy.

Now the hot VMA question on everyone’s mind is whether or not Britney Spears will perform as a follow-up to her disastrous 2007 appearance. Spears is nominated for seven awards, including Video of the Year. Speaking to Pop Tarts an insider in the music industry revealed, “We were surprised she got so many nominations because she has been ‘lip synching’ and while she is talented, the terrain has changed so this may be sympathy nominations because she is getting well.” As for why MTV might push Spears to perform, the source continued, “Every network is hurting for eyeballs. Britney always draws an audience.”

An MTV exec chimed in that as disastrous as Spears’s last VMA performance was, it was still great for the network. Said the exec, “When I first saw it I started to panic. But I soon realized that this was great, it was obviously going to get a lot of attention around the world.” Charming. If we were Britney Spears we’d be happy to perform, especially knowing that MTV is rooting for us to fail.
